Right to choose?

A bill has been proposed by the Oklahoma republican house representative Justin Humphrey, slated to go into effect November 1st 2017.

This bill’s intention?

To take away a woman’s right to choose, in lieu of the fathers permission being given to the mother.

Specifically, this bill states that a woman must first identify the father of her child. Once this is done she must then receive his permission , in written consent, which is to be given to the physician before she is allowed to have an abortion.

If the person identified as the father contests this fact, then he may receive a paternity test at his own expense.

And the exceptions to this bill?

If the “host” can prove that she has been raped, a victim of incest, or in grave danger health wise as a direct result of carrying to term, she has permission to get an abortion without the fathers written consent.

The only other exception is if the father of the child has passed away. in that case, she must sign a notarized affidavit confirming this.

A word from Representative Humphrey

“I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions,” he said. “I understand that they feel like that is their body,” he said of women. “I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant,” he explained. “So that’s where I’m at. I’m like, hey, your body is your body and be responsible with it. But after you’re irresponsible then don’t claim, well, I can just go and do this with another body, when you’re the host and you invited that in.”

I will update this article as I find more information. In the meantime, read the bill yourself here: House Bill 1441
